Ahead of their debut full length album release ‘Mazes’ through Berlin label Souterrain Transmissions on April 28th, MOON DUO have released a new video for the album’s psychedelic-pop title track.
Mazes sees Wooden Shjips guitarist Ripley Johnson and his partner Sanae Yamada attempt to explore a broader and lighter sound than their first two EPs Killing Time (2009, Sacred Bones) and Escape (2010, Woodsist). Recorded in San Francisco and mixed in Berlin during 2010 as the band prepared to move to the mountains of Colorado, Moon Duo seem to be attempting to carve out their own identity, look to the horizon and move forward.
Ripley summarises that, if Mazes is a quest, a journey through American landscape and music, its key is “finding one’s place in the world; moving forward, and the different paths one takes moving through life, trying to reach various goals, literally moving; love; pain; change. Or just getting by, and making sense of things”.
